Snowmass Aspen itself is famous for two things — having lots of ski-in, ski-out accommodation, and being expensive. Luckily, only one of those things is actually true. Snowmass Village nestles along the bottom of the slopes, with a vast selection of slope-side lodges, B&Bs, and hotels to suit all budgets and tastes.

Ski-in, ski-out accommodation options include: The Top Of The Village, Timberline Condominiums, and the Mountain Chalet Snowmass, accessible via the Dawdler and Fanny Hill ski trails. You’ll have access to Park City Mountain Resort via the lift network, and lots of on and off-mountain pastimes, including amazing dining and drink spots.

If you’re looking to visit Deer Valley this season, you’ll be glad to know you can stay right on the hill, thanks to how the village is built around the base. There are both more affordable and luxury options available, all with ski-in, ski-out access.

Killington is the best option for ski-in, ski-out on the East Coast. It’s a vibrant mountain town with plenty to do on and off the mountain. Renowned for its freestyle terrain, Killington attracts a younger crowd, bolstered by its loud and energetic nightlife. And what better way to embrace jibs and drinks than by staying slope-side?

If that doesn’t sound like your scene, Okemo Mountain Resort has a quieter vibe and some on-hill accommodation, too. However, Killington edges out its neighbor by having a slightly stronger showing in terms of what’s on offer, especially as its base features the mighty Killington Grand Resort Hotel – a true favorite of locals and those who’ve made the pilgrimage to get there.

Ski-in, ski-out accommodation options include: The Killington Grand Resort Hotel, Mountain Green Resort, The Mountain Inn, Fall Line Condos, Viewmont Chalet, Ski Home Chalet, and the Ski in/out Spruce Glen Townhomes.

  • Number of trails: 110
  • Number of lifts: 14
  • Top elevation: 12,481 feet
  • Vertical: 3,281 feet
  • Average snowfall: 25 feet

We won’t blame you if you’ve never heard of New Mexico’s Taos Ski Valley. When thinking of New Mexico, most of us imagine Breaking Bad’s wide-open desert vistas, an unbelievably dry and hot climate, and a landscape devoid of mountains. You’d be mistaken for thinking that, though, as in the north and west of the state, there are several sizable ranges. And a little north of Santa Fe, you’ll find the Taos Range, home to the wonderful Taos Ski Valley, among other resorts.

Accommodation at Taos isn’t as extensive as the other resorts on this list, and the resort caters more to families than young, après-loving groups. As such, Taos offers some of the best value for money for a ski-in, ski-out vacation in the US. Options aren’t as extensive as, say, Aspen or Park City, but there are still plenty of places to choose from.

Ski-in, ski-out accommodation options include: The Bavarian Chalets, Hotel St. Bernard, and The Blake Taos. For self-catered; Rio Hondo Condominiums and The Kandahar are awesome choices. There is also a selection of chalets available to rent.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming

  • Number of trails: 131
  • Number of lifts: 15
  • Top elevation: 10,450 feet
  • Vertical: 4,138 feet
  • Average snowfall: 38 feet

Does Jackson Hole Mountain Resort need any introduction? As a regular stop for the Natural Selection Tour, you can imagine that this is a freeride playground like no other. And what better way to round off a day of slaying the gnarliest powder lines than by skiing right into your hotel (and the hot tub!)?

Jackson Hole definitely isn’t budget friendly when it comes to ski-in, ski-out accommodation. But if you’re looking for a lavish getaway with five stars above the door, there may be no better choice in the US. However, make sure you’re an experienced rider, as most of the terrain here is geared towards advanced and expert skiers.

Ski-in, ski-out accommodation options include: The Four Seasons Jackson Hole, and the Snake River Lodge & Spa, located off the Lower Teewinot ski trail. The Teton Club, Alpenhof Lodge, Hotel Terra Jackson Hole, Continuum Hotel, Teton Village Rental Condos, and The Hostel are at the base next to the Aerial Tram and the Sundance trail.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort, Idaho

Schweitzer Mountain Resort, Idaho
  • Total rideable area: 2,900 acres
  • Number of trails: 92
  • Number of lifts: 10
  • Top elevation: 6,400 feet
  • Vertical: 2,400 feet
  • Average snowfall: 25 feet

Schweitzer is often an overlooked ski resort in Idaho. It’s purpose-built, beautiful, and gets an abundance of snow to go with its stellar terrain. Set across two basins, Schweitzer has some of the best low-angled glades in the US, and super short lift lines to go with it. You’ll be slashing powder days after the last dump – and as an added bonus, you can ski to the doorstep of your hotel.

Schweitzer’s mountain village is quite alpine in its layout. There’s an abundance of self-catered options here, along with hundreds of apartments and chalets to rent and a few sizable hotels. This makes Schweitzer a rock-solid choice for a ski-in, ski-out getaway without the crowds.

Ski-in, ski-out accommodation options include: The Schweitzer Hotel, Selkirk Lodge, White Pine Lodge, and the Humbird Hotel. Just a short walk from the base, you’ll find the Schweitzer 38 Headwall, Chutes Chateau, and Schweitzer Creek Condos.
